Natural barium sulphate is produced from selected barite through physical processing. Different grades are available for coatings, plastics, rubber, adhesives, friction materials, glass and ceramic applications.

Natural Barium Sulphate

Product Detail

Product Overview

Natural barium sulphate is a dense mineral filler obtained from barite. Grade selection is normally based on barium sulphate content, whiteness, particle size, density, oil absorption and the surface or processing requirements of the final application.

Series Reference Range

  • BaSO4 content: approximately 88%-95%, depending on grade
  • Whiteness: approximately 83-95, depending on grade
  • Density: approximately 4.0-4.35 g/cm3
  • Oil absorption: series reference approximately 12-17 mL/100 g; individual grades may differ
  • Particle-size range: 200-6000 mesh, with grade-specific options

Grade Guide

  • High Purity Series: Higher-purity and higher-whiteness options with low CaO for applications requiring cleaner mineral filler characteristics.
  • B-L922 and B-L918: Fine grades positioned for high-gloss powder coatings, oil- or water-based coatings, plastics and rubber.
  • B-L909: A fine grade for powder coating, paint, plastic and rubber applications where the grade's colour and oil absorption are suitable.
  • B-D722, B-D718 and B-D707: Coarser grade options for lower-gloss coatings, plastics, rubber, adhesives, friction materials, glass and related uses.

Typical Applications

  • Powder coatings, industrial paints and other coating systems
  • Plastics and modified plastics
  • Rubber and adhesives
  • Friction materials, glass and ceramics
  • Other industrial filler applications after evaluation

Selection and Enquiry Notes

Please provide the resin or polymer system, required gloss, colour or whiteness, particle-size target, oil-absorption requirement, addition level and key performance targets. Final grade selection should be verified by formulation and processing tests.
